Comprehensive Engineering Conference
With four exclusive parallel conference tracks, this year’s IEEE-FW Section MetroCon provides one of the strongest programs ever, allowing the attendee to rapidly grasp the technical and societal implications of some of our most promising and innovative new developments. Each track has been organized in well coordinated morning and afternoon sessions to help achieve maximum exposure in minimum time.
This year's keynote speaker will be Joe Jarzombek, Director of Software Assurance in the Cyber Security Division at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
In his role as Director for Software Assurance in the National Cyber Security Division (NCSD) of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Joe Jarzombek works collaboratively with public, private, and international entities to secure software in cyber assets. He leads government interagency efforts with industry, academia, and standards organizations to shift the security paradigm away from patch management by addressing security needs in work force education and training, more comprehensive diagnostic capabilities, and security-enhanced development and acquisition practices. As part of the process focus, he is also co-sponsoring efforts to integrate security goals and practices into the CMMI through the Assurance Process Reference Model.
Mr. Jarzombek will discuss the relevance of software assurance (SwA) in reducing organizational risk exposure. With today’s global IT software supply chain, project management, quality assurance, and software engineering processes must explicitly address security risks posed by exploitable software. Software assurance processes and practices span development and acquisition and can be used to enhance processes associated with delivering products, systems and services. He explains the critical need for applying the practices, guidelines, and principles used to build security into every phase of software development, acquisition, and operations. He provides overviews of the many free resources that are now available through the DHS SwA and “Build Security In” websites to assist in managing contracted, outsourcing, and development activities.
Mr. Jarzombek served in the U.S. Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel in program management. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked in the cyber security industry as vice president for product and process engineering. Prior to accepting his current DHS position, Joe also served in two software-related positions within the Office of the Secretary of Defense (in Acquisition, Technology and Logistics, as well as in the DoD CIO’s Information Assurance Directorate).
Four exciting tracks and our lunchtime keynote speaker makes this year’s MetroCon one that will be hard to forget. We hope to see you all there!
