MetroCon 2006

“Innovating for Society”

Wednesday, October 4, 2006

With three exclusive parallel conference tracks, this year’s IEEE-FW Section MetroCon provides one of the strongest programs ever, allowing the attendee to rapidly grasp the technical and societal implications of some of our most promising and innovative new developments. Each track has been organized in well coordinated morning and afternoon sessions to help achieve maximum exposure in minimum time.

The Emerging Technologies track, a continuing high-tech feature of MetroCon, returns yet again with an even broader range of topics.  This year’s talks cover advances in nuclear power reactors, aircraft structures optimization, smart homes and environments, and affordable secure communications.

The Biotechnologies track brings together biotechnologists, academe, and engineers to discuss the current biomedical industry issues and successes.  This year’s topics include ocular bio-markers, new approaches for treating glaucoma, advancing concepts in bio-manufacturing, intraocular lens technology, and micro- and nano-scale features for biofilm formation.

The Systems and Software Engineering track, a new track this year, features critical technologies and cutting-edge developments occurring today in the industry. Topics include machine learning, high-assurance real-time embedded systems development, evaluation of software processes, safety-critical programming, and emerging features and capabilities in telecommunications networks and services.

This year’s keynote address, “The Emerging Cyber-Security Crisis,” provides essential information about one of the most serious threats of our modern times.  CyberWar, CyberTerrorism, and CyberCrime threaten not only our country’s Infrastructure and National Security, but our very way of life! What are the risks and specific countermeasures available? What should our government, schools, and industry be doing? This and more from one of the world’s leading experts on the nature and emerging state of Cyber-Security.

Three exciting tracks and our lunchtime keynote celebrity makes this year’s MetroCon one that will be hard to forget. We hope to see you all there!
