Text Box: “Innovating for Society”

Text Box: This year’s IEEE-FW Section MetroCon provides another strong technical program, allowing the attendee to rapidly grasp the technical and societal implications of some of our most promising and innovative new technological developments. Each of the three technical tracks has been organized in well-coordinated morning and afternoon sessions to help the MetroCon attendee achieve maximum exposure to our topics in minimal time.

The Emerging Technologies track, a continuing high-tech feature of MetroCon, returns with its usual broad range of “on the edge” hi-tech topics.  This year’s talks cover advances in Multivariate Parametrics Visualization techniques, Software Reliability, Internet Computing, Nanotechnology Inventions, and Computer-based Prognostics.

The Biotechnologies track brings together biotechnologists, academe, and engineers to shareshare the current biomedical industry issues, advances, and successes.  This year’s topics include Drug Delivery Systems, Research Topics in Biotechnologies and Engineering, Stents, Remote Control of Cells, and the Biomechanical Regulation of Human Cells.

The Power Engineering track returns to MetroCon this year featuring critical and cutting-edge developments occurring today in the power industry sector. Topics include Broadband (internet) over Power Lines, Nuclear Reactor Technology, Substation Communication Networks, and Wind Power Generation.  A representative of the Texas Board of Professional Engineers (TBPE) will provide a thought-provoking talk on Engineering Ethics.

This year’s keynote address will be delivered by Jim Thomas, Director of the Pacific National Laboratories Visualization and Analytics Center.  Jim’s talk will cover the US national research and development need for Visual Analytics technologies and recent advances in the graphical visualization, interaction, and reasoning associated with making sense of vast amounts of engineering and scientific data in a reasonably short period of time.

Three exciting tracks and our lunchtime keynote celebrity makes this year’s MetroCon one that will be hard to forget. We hope to see you all there!
