Student Poster Competition

Lockheed Martin Aeronautics and Oncor Electric Delivery, LLC jointly sponsor the IEEE
MetroCon Student Poster Competition. The purpose of the competition is to encourage
professional and technical development among engineering students. The competition includes
an oral presentation and a poster that details the work being considered in the competition. The
work must first be submitted as a 500-word or less paper abstract, which must be received by the
competition’s organization committee no later than October 13, 2024. Email abstracts to Michael Bishop at [email protected] and please include the following:

  • Title
  • Abstract
  • Presenters
  • Up to two students with emails for complimentary registration
  • Faculty Advisor attending (Optional)


The Student Poster Competition is open to IEEE Student Members who are either
undergraduate or graduate students at the time of the competition. There will be separate
competitions for undergraduate and graduate students. The participants may consist of a team of
up to five members. Two members may present the poster at the competition and attend the
convention free of charge. The remaining team members who wish to attend the Student Paper
Competition will need to pay the $100 student fee.

Engineering work presented must be relevant to the fields of Engineering represented by the IEEE and preferably pertain to a topic that is within one of the tracks of IEEE MetroCon 2024.

Competition Date and Times

November 14, 2024, from approximately 8:30 am – 12:00 pm, with oral presentations between
approximately 9:15 am and 10:30 am during the conference. Check the IEEE MetroCon 2024

Competition Deadlines

  • September 30, 2024 – Three page paper for publication in proceedings on IEEE Xplore due (optional)
  • October 13, 2024 – 500 word abstracts due to [email protected]
  • October 20, 2024 – Registration due for attendance to the MetroCon (registration for 2 competing team members and 1 faculty advisor if accompanying students is free)

Proceedings

If the participants of the student poster competition wish their work to be included in the proceedings of the meeting they should submit a three page paper (including figures). The proceedings will be published on IEEE Xplore.

The paper should be set out using the IEEE template for US letter page size which can be found at https://www.ieee.org/conferences/publishing/templates.html. Submitted papers will be peer reviewed.

The deadline for submission is September 30 2024.

As for all IEEE publications copyright will need to be signed over to the IEEE.
